Ariana Akey is taking her flag football talent to Nebraska.

The two-time Colorado Player of the Year committed to Nebraska after leading her high school program to back-to-back undefeated state championship runs. As a quarterback, Akey has built a reputation as one of the top players in the growing girls flag football scene.
Her commitment is another sign that flag football is creating real next-level opportunities. As more colleges explore or add women’s flag football programs, elite high school athletes are beginning to see a pathway that did not exist for previous generations.
Akey’s résumé stands out because of both individual production and team success. Winning one undefeated state title is difficult. Doing it in back-to-back seasons shows consistency, leadership and program dominance.
Quarterbacks are especially important in flag football. They must process quickly, deliver accurate passes, extend plays and manage the tempo of the game. Akey’s success suggests she has the tools to handle those responsibilities at a high level.
For Nebraska, landing a player with championship experience gives the program a strong building block. Ariana Akey’s move to Nebraska is one of the latest examples of how fast the sport is changing.
