Watch: Zias and B Lou’s Football Highlights
0:00

Before they became internet sensations with millions of followers, Zik Asiegbu and Bishop Louie were just two talented football players chasing their dreams on opposite sides of the Texas-Oklahoma border. Their paths would eventually converge at the University of Tulsa, but their individual high school careers laid the foundation for what would become one of the most entertaining creator duos on YouTube.

Coach Dana
Coach Dana says: AI Opinion To effectively recruit top talent like Bishop Louie, focus on building relationships with local high schools, particularly those with a history of producing skilled athletes. Identifying and engaging with promising players early on can give your program a competitive edge in recruitment.

Bishop Louie: The Tulsa homegrown talent

Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bishop Louie (known to his fans as “B Lou”) attended McLain Science & Tech High School, where he quickly established himself as a versatile playmaker. Standing at 5’10” and weighing around 160 pounds, Louie wasn’t the biggest athlete on the field, but his speed and instincts made him impossible to ignore.

During his junior season, B Lou delivered a breakout performance that announced his arrival as one of Oklahoma’s most dangerous offensive weapons. He totaled 43 receptions for 764 yards and 10 touchdowns as a receiver, while also showcasing his dual-threat ability by carrying the ball 16 times for 204 yards and three additional touchdowns. His defensive contributions were equally impressive, with 48 tackles and two interceptions credited to his name that season.

What made Louie’s game particularly special was his ability to impact the game in multiple phases. His junior year statistics on MaxPreps show he recorded 27 solo tackles and 31 total tackles with an impressive 4.4 tackles per game average, along with one interception. He accumulated 77 total points across the season, demonstrating his scoring ability whether the ball was in his hands on offense or he was making plays on defense.

By the time he reached his senior season, Louie had developed into one of the top defensive backs in the state. His exceptional punt return ability put him in rarefied air, as he ranked seventh in all of Oklahoma for punt return yards average at 23.86 yards per return. More impressively, he ranked first in both Division 4A and 4A District 3 for this same metric, establishing himself as the premier return specialist in his classification.

Despite playing through an injury that limited him to just seven games as a senior, Louie’s performance was enough to earn Tulsa World honorable mention all-state honors, along with all-metro accolades. His four-year career as a letterwinner and starter at McLain cemented his legacy as one of the school’s most accomplished football players.

Zik Asiegbu: The Texas playmaker

On the other side of the border in Arlington, Texas, Zik Asiegbu was making his own noise at James Bowie High School. Standing slightly taller at 6’0″ and weighing around 190-210 pounds, Asiegbu played the linebacker position with a physicality that belied his relatively lean frame.

Originally playing safety before making the transition to outside linebacker, Zik’s move proved to be a game-changer for the Bowie Volunteers. His senior season in 2009 became the highlight of his high school career, as he helped lead Bowie to an impressive 10-2 record and a trip to the regional finals.

The game-by-game statistics from Zik’s senior season on MaxPreps paint a picture of a consistent, high-impact defender. Against Lincoln in the season opener, he recorded 2 solo tackles and 2 total tackles with 1 quarterback hurry. His performance escalated as the competition stiffened, with particularly dominant games against Sam Houston (11 solo tackles, 14 total tackles), Martin (5 solo, 13 total), and Mansfield Summit (5 solo, 11 total).

One of his most impressive performances came against Richland, where he accumulated 3 solo tackles and 8 total tackles along with a sack and a forced fumble. For the season, Zik finished with 68 total tackles, ranking him 12th in 5A Region I District 4 for that category.

His lettering senior season and leadership on a team that reached the regional finals caught the attention of college scouts. On February 3, 2010, Zik officially signed his letter of intent to continue his football career at the University of Tulsa.

The path to Tulsa and beyond

While their high school careers took place in different states and different types of programs, both Bishop Louie and Zik Asiegbu eventually found their way to the same destination: the University of Tulsa. Their paths would cross in Oklahoma, setting the stage for a friendship and partnership that would eventually transcend sports entirely News on 6.

At Tulsa, Louie continued his dual-role existence, playing both wide receiver and defensive back for the Golden Hurricane. He became a three-year letterwinner, appearing in 36 games with two career starts. His collegiate highlight video showcases his speed, agility, and playmaking ability that made him a weapon in both the passing game and on special teams Tulsa Hurricane.

Zik, meanwhile, settled into a role as a linebacker, where his physical style of play translated well to the college level. He became a three-year letterwinner at Tulsa, contributing primarily on special teams while also seeing action at linebacker. His collegiate career mirrored his high school performance—consistent, physical, and reliable Tulsa Hurricane.

Perhaps the most fascinating footnote from their college football careers is that both players went up against future NFL stars Baker Mayfield and Mark Andrews when Tulsa faced Oklahoma. Years later, the duo would react to footage of those games on their YouTube channel, hilariously recalling moments where they matched up against players who would go on to have professional careers.
